Dutch Schultz

DUTCH SCHULTZ was a Belfast band that, for some time, had been lost in the world of music. They have now returned to fill our ears with heavy riffs; tons of dirty bass and a drumbeat that would make you strip your clothes off for free. This being their second album TONIGHT WE HUNT surely did not disappoint Schultz fans.

It is still holds true to the same sound as the first album CARVE OUR NAMES, to which they toured in mainland England and Scotland with also a support slot with THE KILLERS. The riffs and bass gives the sense of a kind of red light districted area but the quality of the hidden messages in the lyrics gives it more of a high tailed call girl if anything else.

Another good point being that there live shows are something to be reckoned with. Their connection with the audience is not based on a vocal exchanging of words but on the sound of the music. Willie being the frontman and of an older generation of myself has to be one of the quietest people when first walking onto the dimly lit stage area but once everything takes off he does come out with a few one liners that you don’t at first understand but can’t help to laugh at.

I have had the pleasure of witnessing this particular heavy/soft rock band and I can honestly say that on every occasion they have not failed to amaze me. From the energy on the young naïve bass player to the calm and collective second guitar player they have a good balance on the levels of enthusiasm in the band, which maybe why the dynamics between each member work so well together.

While of course they have a set list for each gig that they play, there does come a point, I think, in every show where you just want to try something new without actually knowing what it is you are doing. Between songs performed by Dutch Schultz they also seem to throw in a little “Jam session” while performing live. I have yet to see this go horribly wrong, which in worse case scenario most people would expect, but for some reason Dutch Schultz are able to pull these little stunts off in front of a pack or barely filled room. Again this proves that sometimes-great minds do think alike and in order to get have a band that is as well gelled together as Dutch Schultz, they would have to be great minds.

Now well talk about the music in general, the lyrics that I now know off by heart are definitely not for the faint of heart or easily offend with such titles as “CUNT FUCKER”, which also has it’s own T-shirt and lighter brand, “Slice” to name two.

They have the lyrics of an angry heavy metal band, but the sound of a stripper joint. This of course being your take on it. When listening it to the songs myself while polishing the wooden surfaces in my home, I have found myself seriously wanting to be one of them extremely flexible pole dancers that men/women pay to watch. Of course this all occurs in the mind, as I am still living in the same home as my mother.

But I have found that when getting ready for a night on the town and you feel like you just don’t look that good that listening to Dutch Schultz makes you feel like a sex symbol in a way, as you sway your hips in a seductive movement while standing alone in your room applying your eyeliner, my personal favourite being “THE FEEL”.

People may read this review and think, “well, that can’t be good! She seems to think that the music is dirty and heavy and ready provocative,’ and do you know what? That is exactly what I am saying! Everyone is aware that inside every girl is that sexy female raring to get her claws into something dirty and sweaty and with Dutch Schultz that is the girl that your getting, so men or women depending get you significant other to your nearest Dutch Schultz gig and watch the magic unfold.

In this is case sex definitely sells and it’s worth it!

Or buy some merchandise depending on how far you want to take the challenge, because even the T-shirts make the females feel dirty (not in the bad way, the sexy way) I, for one, would know: http://www.dutchschultz.com/shop/
